What Kind of Tattoo Should we Get?

We really want some ink.

For years now we’ve been talking about getting something but because we’re so analytical, we’ve never decided on something to get. I would really like to get a shitload of pseudo meaningful tats like the girls from Pretty Wild (see below) or Russell Brand or Nicole Richie but I exist in a pretty streamer world and I’m not really sure I will still think they’re awesome in 10 years.

Two summers ago we had the really good idea that we’d get a tattoo on the best day of summer and it would just be the date of whatever day this was. This is problematic because it includes random numbers and we’re really superstitious and I got worried that one day I’d realize that I never did due diligence on the numbers and they add up to 666 or something. Anyways the best day of that summer was the day after Michael Jackson died. My sister drove us around through the sticks of Minnesota in her topless jeep and the sun was perfect and we sang along to a lot of MJ to mourn him. Then we got some inner tubes and rafted down this river for like 4 hours getting so drunk on milk cartons of wine that I fell into the river near the end and just kind of laid there for awhile. Anyways we went to the tattoo place after having this magical time and realized drunk + sunburned + not wanting to bleed all over ourselves at the show we were going to that night wasn’t a good combo. But Maybe we should get a tattoo that says ‘6-26-09’.

The next date we considered getting tattooed was the day this winter we invented RAVEWAVE when we went to an underground dance party and our friends all dropped like flies until it was just us, having the greatest conceivable time and then around 5 we ran into two of our friends and went home and played truth or dare with them for the rest of the night. So maybe we should get a tattoo that says ‘2-5-11’.

Also, I really want a phoenix because it’s a symbol of getting reborn everything you die out of something shitty happening in your life. Seems like phoenixes are really complicated though, and I only like simple images for tats.

Or I want some kind of script somewhere that says ‘nothing collapses’ from my favorite Walt Whitman poem, because I have to remind myself of this sometimes. (if you get an inner bicep tattoo, is it supposed to be readable when you move your arm sideways or when you hold it over your head?)

Also really want a <3 emoticon on my wrist, which is really visible but fuck it maybe. The song ‘Heartbeats’ by The Knife is really important to both of us, and the <3 emoticon represents this stupid/awesome time in our lives (right now) where everyone on the internet just sends hearts to each other and is chill.

We could get Phis, you know, for Philosophy. Or this symbol which I invented and is supposed to represent both <3 and logic because its a heart and a Phi:

Anyways, we want to get this on Easter but we really need help figuring out what we want. What kind of tattoo should we get?
