Get Some Manners Bro

Last night during an extremely pleasant evening sitting outside at Target Field my friend and I were catching up on what’s been going on in the last few weeks. I was with her a few weeks ago when she met some guy from Florida at a bar. He had asked her to text him so they exchanged numbers, flirted, and hung out when he came back on a business trip a week later.

It’s not a big deal, sometimes people just like to flirt and pass the time, she’s casually seeing someone else and isn’t exactly pinning wedding dresses to her ‘Florida Bro’ pinboard. So a week after he sees her for the second time he responds to something she says “Please stop texting me.” Hearing this story I told her he has to be married or something and was doing this under the watch of his wife because what a weird, rude thing to say?

I mean, who would interrupt casual, friendly conversation to say bluntly without explanation “i don’t want to hear from you ever again?” This girl is literally the most chill girl I have ever met in my life, but even she spent the two day span of getting this text and forcing an explanation out of him (they live in different states and don’t have a future) seriously questioning what she did wrong to bring about such a sudden, rude demand. It’s fine to want to stop talking to someone, just say so in a respectful, non-weirdo way that doesn’t cause more drama in one text than the accumulated rest of the time you’ve been talking.

I don’t even have anything I want to convey other than my disappointment that this bro thinks his behavior is okay and the fact that I get really unrealistically angry when people hurt my friends. Where’s your mom? Does she know this is how you’re reflecting her parenting skills to the world?  Why is it okay to give less respect someone you’ve exchanged a small amount of romantic interest in worse than a stranger off the street. I mean surely you wouldn’t say something dickish to someone at the bus stop that makes them question themselves for a solid 48 hours. I don’t have any philolzophy spin on this, I just felt like someone should make it a public record that this Florida bro is a dick.
